HS/College Students: How’s your school handling COVID 19 for the Fall?

Ok so just got my response from the University board today and I have to say I’m disappointed in them. They did exactly what I feared the most, the idea of reopening my entire college campus for the Fall Semester.

Luckily, the board of directors “promises” (key word) to maintain social distancing and enforce students to wear a mask. I have my doubts they’ll keep their word (they’re more of a conservative campus compared to Harvard/MIT). But we’ll see.

The good news is that they’re offering “online” classes as well for those who prefer to stay at home during COVID. The issue with this idea however is that the students will get this “pressure” to keep up, and will have a much harder road compared to those who attend to class.

What’s worse is that although the school plans to have open campus until November 20th (this is a big yikes and there’s no way this lasts given the rise of COVID cases recently) they have no official plan on platform the students will use nor have they told the teachers exactly what they need to do (Note: School starts exactly a month from now so this isn’t good).

Hopefully this isn’t the same response everywhere else and hopefully everyone’s schools do the right thing by going full online.

I think I’m full online, not sure about labs though

So um… what about everyone else?

Obligatory not a college or HS student, but my son’s elementary school came out with their proposal today, which includes the student body being divided in half and attending physical classes two days a week (Monday, Tuesday for half the kids, Thursday, Friday for the other half) with the rest of their lessons being held online.

The students and staff will be required to wear masks and adhere to social distancing protocols (six feet and all that)

I’m… iffy on the practicality of such an arrangement, but I guess we’ll see.

My little sister, on the other hand, goes to Arizona State and uh,

WTF?!!

These people need to be shamed and lose their jobs, they’re putting everyone at risk because of this. No excuses, they should be fired or resign pronto.

At least though my college gives more fucks about us then this board.

I’d love to hear how much they got paid to do this

Note this where Orange County is, for a sec I thought it was in Florida

Uhhh…

Yeah I hope they go full online ASAP. If not, then yeah if I was her there ain’t no way I’m going to campus.

From what she says, the prospect of that happening is looking pretty grim. She’s actually toying with the idea of taking a semester off and then transferring to a school back home here in Illinois.

She’s been pretty disgusted with the way the Arizona government as a whole has been treating this shit.

My high school is going back full time, you need to wear a mask into the school and once u get in class u take it off.

You cant be serious, right? That’s utterly ridiculous if they don’t provide an online option.

I actually support this 100%, I won’t be attending a university, especially if they consider money over my own life at risk. She should absolutely reconsider as long as most of her credits transfer. Who knows, she might end up being the smart one a few months from now

This didn’t look too bad until the once you’re in class part. They should be on no matter the circumstances and students must be 6 feet apart.

It shouldn’t be a political thing, it’s the right thing to wear a mask.

Here in Australia (where there is less than 10,000 cases) universities have been shut down since March with everything done online

From what I’ve heard from my her and my Mom, shit is pretty bad over there and they just continue to take half measures (Arizona as a whole) shit like restaurants are still open for dining in at half-capacity despite the enormous surge in cases recently.

I believe my uni said it’s gonna be a mix of online and in person, there’s already a list of some in person classes (mainly the ones that you need to be there like labs and dance and that stuff)

But man this COVID thing better get wrapped up by the end of the year

My college is gonna be hybrid online and offline… on campus housing is gonna be much more spaced out than before, all single rooms, and a bunch of upperclassmen are going to be kicked out of their on campus housing to house freshmen… classes above 25 people are gonna be online and a few smaller classes will still be in person… there’s gonna be mandatory social distancing and mask wearing and they’re gonna try to put in an 8:30 curfew for everyone on campus… I’m living in my fraternity house off campus with about 25 kids and we’ll be in our own little bubble… My school’s in the middle of Philly so I have no clue how they’re gonna enforce anything but they said more police presence… also we’ll be at school until thanksgiving then online for the rest of the year

This is oddly what my Uni is exactly proposing as well

FSU wants some to be in class and some to be online but idk how it’s going to work. people in tallahassee are crazy lol most people will not abide by any rules. as much as I want things to open up and go back to normal I don’t think it’s a good idea especially since florida has such high numbers

How are we supposed to breathe?

I mean you can still breathe if you take it off for a sec and put it back on. Or otherwise, the 2nd best solution is to social distance.

I prefer the mask option and social distance

doctors work in masks for hours and hours on end. i agree school shouldn’t go back and id imagine kids would be bad at following protocol but its not impossible to breathe in masks
