Holy shit so I was initially a little put off by his height at SF so said what the hell I’ll try him at the 2. OMG has he impressed he is straight cash. Quick butter release. If he’s open or even semi contested he’s cashing it. He’s got that Klay/Curry/Larry hidden tendency where he can splash and splash. I just had a game where I hit 4 back to back triples with him it’s ridiculous. I defenitley recommend him. He’s also a lockdown defender.

I liked the card, but wasn’t as impressed with his finishing as I wanted to be, and he got bullied by other forwards and bigger shooting guards. He can definitely splash, though.
I had him when he first dropped. He was amazing, then about 2-3 promos later he seemed nerfed for me. Couldn’t hit anything, he was slow. Had to move on. When he was on tho, probably was my best overall round of SM.
I’m running the duo w/ Cowens and they’re both beastly. Hondo is, like you said, lights-out and Cowens is such a beast!
I don’t know if I can replace Amy Josh. I might have to check that duo out though didn’t even know about it. Holy shit on Cowens badges. How’s his release can he splash from outside at a good clip? How about his defense against a KD or Bron at PF?
Pretty good thanks to the LQ on him. Also, his release is very easy to hit. It’s a pretty buttery shot, and with the duo + the right badges, he becomes a very reliable corner shooter.
if I can find him with a shoe even better and he’s dirt cheap. Do shoe boosts stack with duos?
They do when both players are in the court otherwise is just the shoe boost
They only add +9 to stats, unlike last year which would boost pretty much whatever to a 99. If you can either get one w/ a shoe OR shooting badges, you’re set.
My strength shoe hondo is a beast
Sweet I’ll be on the hunt for Hondo/Cowens with shoes. Yea he’s better than JR for sure I’d probably take him over Klay too. Klay as good as his defense is it just doesn’t translate for some reason maybe the speed or tendencies. I always can just drive right around him with no problem.
Hondo really underwhelmed me for weeks after I put him in the squad. Shooting sub 40% from the field and sub 30% from 3. I then managed to find one with the Jordan 3 point shoe for cheaper than the other ones so I grabbed that and sold mine for the same price. Ever since then he’s been absolutely lights out. In 43 games he’s shooting 62% from the field and 63% from deep… Shoe only boosts open 3 by what 3 attributes? But somehow it made him my best shooter.
That thing last year was a visual glitch and wasn’t a result of “stacking.” It was a result of the Duo boost being calculated as a multiplier of base ratings, and that multiplier also being applied to the shoe boost…visually, but not in the actual game mechanics/engine.
The good “test case” was Ruby Westbrook, with his duo with Sappire Kawhi.
But he definitely did not shoot like he had 93 Moving 3, IMO.
It was just a “visual glitch.” I think we still have those. With coaches seeming to not have any effect in online games, for example.
