Group Project: Coaches (Let's Build a List)

I’m not in front of console so I can’t contribute anything right now. But want to kick-start this, anyway…

Anyone who’s willing to contribute, please reply in this topic and post any coach(es) you have, with a list of the boosts, and magnitude of boosts, that they give.

UPDATE: I THINK I GET HOW COACHES WORK TOTALLY NOW, EXCEPT WHETHER OR NOT PG AND SG HAVE SAME RATINGS BOOSTS. THE DATA WILL BE BEST DISPLAYED IN A TABLE/MATRIX.

There are 8 Systems, according to the Dev Blog, and I assume they are the same as the 8 that existed in 2K18:

  1. 7 Seconds
  2. Balanced
  3. Defense
  4. Grit & Grind
  5. Pace & Space
  6. Perimeter Centric
  7. Post Centric
  8. Triangle

NOTES ON HOW COACHES WORK

  • There are five “grades” of System proficiency: Poor, Average, Good, Great, Excellent (is there anything above Excellent?)

  • It seems all Tiers of Coaches can have same maximum number of different Ratings that get boosted.

  • The higher the tier of the Coach, the bigger the Ratings boost is. (I.e. +1 for Bronze vs. +5 for Diamond.)

  • It seems that the “Fit” of a Player to a System determines the number of Ratings boosts that they get from a coach. E.g. “Good” gets 4 boosts, “Great” gets 5 boosts, “Excellent” gets 6.

  • Poor gets 2 boosts, and an extra Rating is boosted with each increase in proficiency.

  • The Ratings that are boosted depend on position. SF, PF, and C are all different and SF is different from SG. Don’t know yet if PG and SG are same.

  • Position played doesn’t matter. There is no out-of-position penalty. Only coded position matters.

  • You only need to check the boosts for the highest level of proficiency, as that will tell you what is boosted for each level of proficiency below.

HOW TO GET THE NECESSARY DATA

  • You don’t need to test multiple Tiers of Coaches with same System.
  • You don’t need to test multiple players from a position with different proficiency grades. Just the highest proficiency grade you have.
  • Not sure yet, but we need to have every position tested: PG, SG, SF, PF, C.
  • We only need to get data for 1 coach from each of 8 Systems, and hopefully Excellent player for each position.

This chart reflects all the Systems/Positions for which we have complete/“Excellent” list of ratings boosts. “X” means we have Excellent. If not X, then something less than Excellent, in which case we still have X out of Y of the list…

Kerr is rare (most people keep him) you might need to pay 15-25k or so.

So I guess coaches arent 10k max anymore? 2K greed lol

They’re if its buy out, but you barely ever find kerr for that. Mostly bid.

oh ok makes sense

Ah! That makes sense.

This will help to slim down the amount of checking we need to do.

Okay, I think I understand how Coaches work and how the number of Ratings that get boosted increases, and how it works with positions.

EDIT: I’ve updated first post with information from here, so some is redundant/mixed now.

Some Conclusions:

  • There are five “grades” of System proficiency: Poor, Average, Good, Great, Excellent (is there anything above Excellent?)
  • Poor gets 2 boosts, and an extra Rating is boosted with each increase in proficiency.
  • The actual boost amount is determined by the Tier of the Coach.
  • The Ratings that are boosted depend on position. SF, PF, and C are all different and SF is different from SG. Don’t know yet if PG and SG are same.
  • You only need to check the boosts for the highest level of proficiency, as that will tell you what is boosted for each level of proficiency below.

Coach: Tyronn Lue (Ruby/Grit & Grind)

PG

  • POOR: Open 3
  • POOR: LQ
  • AVERAGE: Help DIQ
  • GOOD: Pass IQ
  • GREAT: ???
  • EXCELLENT: ???

SG

  • POOR: Open 3
  • POOR: LQ
  • AVERAGE: Help DIQ
  • GOOD: Pass IQ
  • GREAT: ???
  • EXCELLENT: ???

SF

  • POOR: Open 3
  • POOR: LQ
  • AVERAGE: Help DIQ
  • GOOD: OB DIQ
  • GREAT: Driving Layup
  • EXCELLENT: ???

PF

  • POOR: Help DIQ
  • POOR: LP DIQ
  • AVERAGE: OB DIQ
  • GOOD: Driving Layup
  • GREAT: Post Control
  • EXCELLENT: Def Rebound

C

  • POOR: HELP DIQ
  • POOR: LP DIQ
  • AVERAGE: Def Rebound
  • GOOD: Off Rebound

I have kerr and both Gerald wallace and lebron get +5 in on ball, contested mid, shot close, ball control, open 3, def rebounding

Mario chalmers get +5 in 5 different things, not 6 tho, him and morris peterson are "great "fits in this system while lebron and wallace are excellent

If you can help, I have full details updated in first post.

What we need is just:

  • Complete data for one coach per system.
  • Excellent “fit” player for each position (PG, SG, SF, PF, C)
  • List of the Ratings that are boosted for highest level of “fit” player in each position.

So if Chalmers and MoPete are the highest PG and SG you have for Balanced, then you’ve given all you can, except…

What are highest Balanced fit PF and C that you have and what Ratings are boosted for them?

If they ever fix duos and ur comfortable running rondo at point, then amy lebron with kerr, diamond shoe boosting 3 and duo could have a 87 3ball

One second

Daniel gibson +5 in 6 ratings (excellent fit) 91 balanced
Driving layup
Shot close
Contested shot mid
On ball
Ball control
Open 3

Morris peterson +5 in 5 ratings(great fit) 88 balanced
On ball
Contested mid
Shot close
Ball control
Open 3

Lebron james +5 in 6 ratings (excellent fit) 95 balanced
On ball
Contested mid
Shot close
Ball control
Open 3
Def rebounding

Gar heard +5 in 5 ratings (great fit) 86 balanced
Def rebounding
On ball
Shot close
Off rebounding
Driving layup

Demarcus cousins +5 in 5 ratings (great fit) 82 balanced
Def rebounding
Shot close
On ball
Off rebounding
Driving layup

@HarryLundt does that help?

Totally, thanks!

Actually, shit, I’m sorry I didn’t look closer before…what I actually needed was just your LBJ list, because I already laid out a Balanced coach and SF was one of the positions for which I don’t have anyone Excellent.

For Balanced, we’re still missing the 6th/Excellent boost for SG, PF, and C.

I need to edit top post to reflect systems/positions covered…
