Currently a high school senior and it hit me that I’m not 100% sure what to do I don’t wanna put myself in a bad situation any suggestions?
don’t go to college unless you’re fully committed and have a plan.
Right I want to go but I don’t want to waste my time for something I don’t feel comfortable doing
there are about a million factors that go into it.
what’s ur/ur family’s financial situation like?
how are your grades?
what subjects do you do best in/which ones interest you the most?
how well do you do with remote classes?
Once you get to college, no matter what anyone says, nobody truly knows what they’re going to do for sure afterward
HS is a cakewalk for college gotta be mentally prepared
This is amazing advice…just cus most of your friends are going to college don’t feel rush into it, if you need time to feel out ur passion or goals take some time off school until something sparks you. A lot of people build up 10k debt to realize this ain’t the career for em don’t be that person lol
College isn’t 100% necessary for everyone. Don’t fork over all that tuition money if you aren’t fully committed to the idea of it. You can change your major whenever you want so being committed to one area of study shouldn’t be that big of an issue.
If you do decide to go, make sure you keep the social life and school life balanced and in check. It’s all too easy for some to completely drop all their work in favor of partying.
So far my college experience has been beneficial and I think it’s been worth it for me personally. It’s different for everyone.
My situation is good my grades are good I am good in my subjects but I hate maths a lot and I have been doing good In remote learning
I think you should do a lot of introspection about your goals and interests, talk to people with a variety of backgrounds and experiences, and consider both 4 year universities and 2 year community college with a university transfer curriculum.
as much as people like to say that getting a bachelors degree isn’t necessary, it’s still pretty clearly tied to lifetime earnings. in other words, the majority are still better off getting a 4 year degree than not. i’d say that the people who are better off not have a very clear job in mind that they can get with a 2 year technical degree.
I also forgot to say that I have a skill in automotive I did in high school going to a trade school is on my list too
Like @jdealla said there’s so many factors that go into this
In general, I’d say don’t be afraid to go to community college for a year or two if you haven’t figured everything out but don’t wanna sit around doing nothing for a year. If you use that year or two to develop a plan, you can transfer to a “regular” university and finish out your degree there
This. Plus don’t feel like you have to rush things. Take the time to consider your options and try and find your true passion.
This too, especially with the world we are living in right now. You won’t be getting the normal “college experience” anyway so saving money going to community might be the smartest thing.
College is incredibly difficult.
You dont need College or University for those unless you want to be a distinguished Engineer. What is important for you is that you have the necessary credits in your transcript just in case you need to resort to a plan B or plan C. A number of people I know are mechanics or in trades without a degree, they only have references, accreditations, certificates and training to back up their claims that they know what they’re doing.
The most memorable thing someone had told me on my internship in an investment firm is that I “could now forget everything I had learned in College”
There are also a number of points in this thread already mentioned that could help you in your decision. Good Luck
I’m at community college right now and am going to transfer into a state school next year. I didn’t know what I wanted to do after hs so I went this route. I’d suggest it, it gives you a lot of opportunities while being very inexpensive.
The best advice I ever received was to do something you love and find a way to make a living off it.
I wanted to coach basketball to cure the itch for my competitive nature, so I had to go to college and earn a 4 year degree to become a teacher/coach. After a year into the profession, Is it the best paying job in the world? Hell no, but it’s something I knew I would regret if I DIDN’T choose that career path.
College isn’t hard honestly, it’s just staying motivated to push yourself through it. If your passion is oilfield, you don’t need college.
You still young don’t go into anything unless u ready to say I will do this and won’t stop til it’s completed. I made this mistake just going into college for something I knew I could do but didn’t really have a passion for it, but because of those mistakes I was able to meet ppl and this one teacher that encouraged me to go persue something else.
Just know you’re young, open up dialect with the people around you and it might really kinda push u in a direction you haven’t even considered yet👌🏼
this is the best advice to HS seniors graduating who would likely do well in college but don’t have any strong ideas about what they want to do, unless they have some full or substantial scholarship to a university.
My advice would be go to community college and get the basics out the way if you want to continue your education but not sure on what you want to major in.
Especially given the climate. I’m literally just doing what I have to do to pass these classes. Biggest benefit of going to a 4 year is the connections and with COVID going on it’s not as many networking events.
