Hey so last year I got to the pd rewards and I redeemed 4. Right about up until diamond I had to grind pretty hard (I locked the draft set). Can you guys give me some tips on how to be successful and reach the opal token market this year? Thanks

Lock in sets, as in heat check and the others, last year from crashes I was able to lock all the heat checks for 600k. Gotta wait for crashes and work the market for “rare” cards

Domination and TTO are the best for tokens (besides locking sets)

I did dom and tto, got all the current players locked. And the 250 token card collection bonus by getting jerseys and logos. Got 5 pd by doing all of that NMS, then ultimate dropped and the market crash i was able to lock that set and grab my only opal

My sense was that, unless one was going to also lock sets to get to DI and PD Rewards early, any auctionable proceeds from Dom were better sold for MT, rather than locked for Tokens.

Once i hit the 250 tokens collection reward i sold everything back and finally got some opals before they were cheap af (dr j was 115k)

Correct me if I’m wrong. As far as I remember 2k20 was the first 2k right? I have a few years more experience than you and from my perspective the vc glitch in 2k19 may have taken away all the fun. Normally there are 4 main categories of players:

  1. Spenders
  2. Grinders
  3. Spenders and Grinders
  4. Casuals

Spenders used to have good cards (maybe better than yours) but sometimes they couldn’t play very well.
Grinders spend a lot of time to get squads good enough to compete with spenders and got there after a while.
Spenders grinders are probably the worst opponents they had good cards and knew how to play
Casuals were the ones who delivered easy wins too the previous groups while they didn’t have skill nor cards to compete.
The glitch turned things upside down. Grinders got lazy, spenders didn’t have to spend (maybe it’s good), and then casuals suddenly had similar cards to us. As a grinder the satisfaction from getting a nice cards by making saving Mt or by grinding tokens is much bigger than from a stolen box. I used the glitch to keep my lineup competitive this year but it wasn’t that satifying.

So you grinded a fair amount and got your first token opal in July. 2K wants you to know, just spend some money and you can get one in October!

I did start at allstar break but still, wouldn’t have got one until the ultimate set regardless

In addition to all that, it’s not nice to encourage others to cheat. It’s as if someone deliberately wants them banned.

Just counted something guys.
Beating DOMINATION will probably give you 719 tokens (number from last year)
Beating 1k TTOffline games 750 tokens
Plus some tokens from challenges and those spins or ball drops. Means…
It will take you to almost 2 Pink Diamonds from the token market. Sooooo your lineup may look like this:
4 Pink Diamonds (Kemp from domination, Ibaka from TTOffline, two guys from token market)
1 Galaxy Opal (Wilkins from TTOffline)
How about that guys? My starting 5 may look like this:
PG - D Tim Hardaway
SG - PD Gervin
SF - GO Wilkins
PF - PD Ibaka
C - PD Ewing
Just speculating but it’s fun knowing you can grind your way to a decent lineup.
