2K Developer's thoughts on making 2K a competitive product

If this is the thought pattern of all of the 2K devs then it makes me think this franchise/game will never be good.

It would be nice if it actually resembles a basketball product

Gameplay wise, maybe the game engine is limiting the potential of making it realistic? The AI could be limited on movements and stuff, I guess we’ll find out next gen on that though. Balance-wise I can’t see how this game will get any better

2k engine to me changed 2k13 and never changed to me

But it was competitive and realistic at one point :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Just remove the BTB stun move, remove bump steals, remove players jumping like Randy Moss across the court into passing lanes and remove the karate chop steal animation that idiots spam when trying to deflect passes.

There is programing within the online play to make it more like a slot machine in some ways. The sliders change dramatically from one game to the next. Its very easy to see the predetermined animations in ways that makes you feel like you are not in control. Your animations can become slower and you can miss wide open shots. The game has programing that takes over in situations in the game. Everything is a push in some way or another to spend money for a better team.

I can win more TTO games with ruby’s or lower cards then the best cards in the game.

And we used to think that he’s one of the good guys.
Hopefully their whole building burns down to the ground when noone’s in it and they all end up making ads for porn sites.

Pro tip: use evo cards, they register as the base level even when you get them to PD.
EVO JKidd is an absolute clampgod jesus if you wanna offball.

I always thought 2k was the more in depth intellectual option for.basketball games. Ea never seemed very serious. But man 2k end of the cycle shit just makes it really lame lol there is a sweet spot where cards are actually semi balanced but it is a short period of time tbh

2k doesn’t know what it wants to be, it tries to be competitive, casual, and sim all at the same time and it just fails

Those idiots live in their own bubble that’s completely detached from the community, both basketball and gaming world.
Just keep jacking each other off and thinking all is well because kids are amazed when they get free shit once a year.

That’s true today but when it started it was the Sim option relative to NBA Live. Now that it’s killed off NBA Live it’s turning into NBA Live.

E.g. catering to casuals above all else, copy paste game engines year after year, inexplicable bugs and glitches, etc.

Edit: I’d like to emphasize that Da Czar is wrong. It was not a consumer game for casuals. It was the most Sim offering on the market. That’s how it killed off Live. It got better each year too while Live was stagnant. Now 2K has turned into Live.

Surely a consumer basketball product would inherently work competitively?

The closer it mimics real basketball the more it resembles a competitive balanced affair.

I don’t understand what he’s saying whatsoever.

Yeah his post is confusing. Is he basically saying his job at 2k is a waste of time? I mean he was brought in for realism.

He’s covering his ass. He knows he can’t make it Sim with the shitty ass engine they use. They’d have to redo things from scratch at this point.

In another tweet he says a sim game wouldn’t sell.

It’s not even about sim.
The game is broken.
It doesn’t need to be sim to be balanced.

And they don’t want to fix the simplest of issues.

Damn if Da_Czar has thrown in the towel its fucking over. I remember being on OS when he got the job. Crazy.

Might as well keep polishing my 5 Out BTB.

He’s a moron who doesn’t know how the basics about how a pvp game should be balanced.
It’s not even about it being sim/arcadey.

I’m sure that something like presets for defensive setting so we don’t have to adjust them before every single game would cost millions.

But they can implement idiotic features like coach challenge? Why the fuck is AI referee programmed to make mistakes? Because I win 80% of the challenges I make.
Does that mean that most of the fouls being called on drives aren’t actually fouls? ffs
